Beschreibung:

The programme offers a balanced mix of lectures, interactive discussion/debate and exercises. During four days the programme offers morning sessions on key European issues like history, development and functioning of European institutions, European policy making and European integration. The afternoon sessions apply and specify the key notions to the participant’s chosen field of specialisation (higher education, energy or safety governance). The final day of the programme will exchange and discuss differences and similarities in Europeanisation in higher education policy, energy policy and safety governance. Guiding question here is what the comparison of the three policy fields/domains teaches about European policies and integration. Important questions in this respect are: have policy processes in the field of higher education, energy and safety developed in similar ways? If not, why have they proceeded differently? Are differences in policy processes dependent on the specific characteristics of the policy area or are these related to national or European rules?

The summer school ends with a panel discussion between senior academics and representatives from several European-wide organisations.

The programme offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to widen and deepen their academic knowledge of the current debate on Europe and to study across the boundaries of academic disciplines and nationalities. Moreover, participants will get the opportunity to discuss their research with staff and participants in small sessions. From an academic standpoint the European Summer School will offer students the chance to develop and better tie their ongoing research to wide-ranging policy in the area of higher education, energy and safety governance.
