In May 2011 the project “Neighbours together – the good thing of living side by side”, organised by the Turkish NGO System and Generation, will officially start in Turkey and run for 8 months. It is a trans-national Youth Initiative (Action 1.2) financed by the Youth in Action Programme, which involves three countries: Turkey, Greece and Germany.

Citizens of Europe is looking for 5 participants from Germany, interested in taking part in the project and in flying to Ankara from the 21th to the 27th of May 2011, where they will attend the European Neighbour’s Day.

The theme of the project is “Neighbourship” both on a local and on a European level. It aims on the one hand to rise awareness of neighbourship in and of different countries and on the other hand to directly enhance the living environment of the local community in Ankara.

The groups from Greece and Germany will visit Turkey from 21st to 27th May.

From the 21st to the 22nd they will participate in the Spring Festival of Ankara University, from the 23rd to the 25th the groups will visit Tosya and Kastamonu in the north-west of Ankara, head on to Ereğli on the 25th and will finally come back to Ankara on the 27th May. During these days they will visit Turkish neighbourhoods, give presentations of their own neighbourhoods in their home countries and do of course sight-seeing.

Whether requested participants can also extend their stay for the weekend until the 29th, for example visiting Istanbul on their own.

70% of the travel costs and accommodation and food will be covered.

After the visit in Turkey participants from Greece and Germany will contribute to the project from their home countries.

For each month until December 2011 they are expected to make a contribution to the project website on the topic of “European neighbourship” or “Intercultural neighbourship”.

In December they will give a final contribution on a topic they choose on their own related to neighbouring.

Within the evaluation phase the final report will be presented and published during a closing press panel on the 5th of December 2011, the International Day of volunteering.
