Seminar:
Task force for the EU

German and Polish policy towards Europe under scrutiny

Europäische Akademie Berlin
Bismarckallee 46/48
14193 Berlin
Berlin Brandenburg

Beschreibung:

A seminar and workshop held in English for young people from Poland and Germany from 13 - 16 May 2011 (Friday to Monday)

What is the present position as regards a common fate for Germany and Poland in Europe? What kinds of stimulus may arise as a result of cooperation between these two countries, one of the 'old' and one of the 'new' member states? What does Europe signify for young representatives of both these nations?

How do the two points of view differ, and how might it be possible to combine these differences to achieve added value in European diversity?

These are some of the questions to be discussed in a three and a half day long seminar and workshop which will take place in the European Academy Berlin. We are looking forward to this opportunity of discussing the following with you, young adults from Germany and Poland:

a) first with the help of German and Polish presenters to analyse current developments in the European Union (new arrangements after the Lisbon Treaty came into force, the debt crisis, stability in the peripheral regions of the EU, the Polish presidency of the Council).

b) to carry out two brief simulations which will examine selected aspects of Polish and German policies towards Europe (energy and enlargement)

c) then together to reflect on European public information activities and about new forms of public participation in Europe (for example, the European Citizens' Initiative).

d) together to discover and explore Berlin, not only as a location for German and European unity, but in addition as a German-Polish metropolis.

This seminar is intended for school and other students, as well as young leaders and disseminators. It will take place in Berlin, in the premises operated by the European Academy Berlin and will be held in English. A participation fee amounting to 49 euros is required for any participant under 30 years old.

This will cover accommodation, meals or refreshments and programme costs for the period indicated above.

The European Academy Berlin is able to offer a subsidy towards travel costs up to a maximum of 30 euros

for Polish participants. To register for this seminar and/or to obtain further information please contact Ms. Sara Opitz at the e-mail address p7(at)eab-berlin.eu or by phone on +49-030-895951-25. You can also go to our web site at www.eab-berlin.eu and check out current programmes.
