Dii, founded to enable the Desertec concept, is holding its first Annual Conference. This concept aims at supplying the Middle East, North Africa and Europe with power produced from sun and wind energy sources in the deserts. The long term goal is to satisfy a substantial part of the energy needs of the MENA countries and to meet about 15% of Europe’s electricity demand by 2050.

Keynotes will be presented by EU Energy Commissioner Mr. Günther Oettinger and several high-level government representatives from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

While exchanging with business representatives and researchers about desert power generation, transmission, financing, regulatory framework and socio-economic development participants can explore future business perspectives. Our Annual Conference will give an insight in Dii’s work reflecting on regulatory, political and economic challenges for large-scale production of electricity from sun and wind in the deserts and the crucial issue of bringing its costs down to a competitive level.
