In recent years relations between the USA and Europe have been marked by ups and downs. The Bush administration foreign policy in particular contributed to a trend toward alienation of Europe from the USA. The election of Barack Obama raised great hopes in Europe for a renewal in transatlantic relations.

Europe meets America – our new series of dialogues is directed at civil society and aims to initiate a learning process on both sides of the Atlantic:

• Study and understand differences and commonalities with a view to political structures and socio-political challenges in the USA and Europe.
• Meet personalities from "your" and the respective "other" Union in order to perceive the Unions in a new light and consider them as equal partners.

“Similar Structures – Common Challenges?” - The initial event of our new dialogue series will focus on two thematic complexes:

• The USA and the EU towards a more perfect Union – the comparison of the constitutional processes and their development and the present federal structures in the two entities shall elucidate the issue.
• Consideration of similarities and/or differences in institutional structures in both the USA and Europe: How are the common challenges of the 21^st century dealt with?

Participate in an intercultural exchange and discuss this topical issue with experts from the USA and Europe!
