Beschreibung:
You can like it or not but the digital reality can’t be changed. The progress of the internet and additional digital media has had a tremendous success in the last 20 years and is today part of our daily life. We receive many advantages from this development, many things are just easier or of higher quality. Furthermore the internet provides us with more opportunities to take part in social and democratic life. It goes without saying that one can also bring forward critic about the digital life and all that glitters is not gold. We have to deal with various computer viruses, operating procedures are brought to a standstill because the PC doesn’t work and social contacts are anonymised in the net. It would be easy to continue on the pro side as well on the contra side
of the issue.
With the web 2.0 we have another phenomenon in our digital reality which is especially to young people very familiar. This is a fantastic opportunity to attract young citizens to politics and social involvement and to animate them to participate actively in democracy. For the ever closing Union in Europe and active European citizenship the web 2.0 is a very enriching tool to support this development. Thousands of kilometres do not have to be physically overcome. The citizens of the European nation states can cooperate without costly travelling. Within the new European Commission the two portfolios „Digital Agenda“ und „Citizenship“ are not by accident a top priority.
But it would be a vital error to think that the direct exchange and contact of the people could be replaced by a pure digital communication platform. As often the dependencies are not monocausal nor can the problems be solved with just one solution. This European youth gathering puts theses two issues together. On the one hand the direct exchange of young Europeans and on the other hand the dealing with the phenomenon of the web 2.0.
We will create Europe together and live a lively and active understanding among nations by intercultural learning and personal exchange. And we’ll have also a closer look to the web 2.0, how we can use it for the cooperation in Europe and in European youth education. The multiplier effect after the gathering is as important as the sustainable communication among the participants.
