European conference: “EU Funding for Environmental Projects”, 3 and 4 November 2008, Frankfurt a. Main, Germany

The success of environmental projects depends to a large extent on the funds available. The conference “EU Funding for Environmental Projects”, on 3-4 November 2008, in Frankfurt a. Main, Germany, organized by the European Academy for Taxes, Economics & Law, helps attendees to identify the most suitable funding option among the relevant programmes for environmental projects.

Spending towards environmental objectives in general is

‘mainstreamed’ into various funding instruments. The environmental focus in the current programming period is provided by such funding instruments as LIFE+, Structural Funds, INTERREG, CIP and FP7. The multitude of funding instruments available at EU level for environmental projects renders it difficult to obtain a comprehensive overview that highlights the differences between the funding options. Furthermore, significant changes have been introduced through newly adopted regulations for the current programming period concerning the most relevant EU funding options. Consequently, the present funding opportunities to achieve environmental objectives are greater than ever before.

To grasp the funding potential of the financial instruments, public officials and consultants dealing with environmental projects need to be aware of respective regulations. The conference offers a detailed overview of the different funding instruments, their objectives as well as their scope of assistance and enables attendees to identify the most effective financial option for their project. Focusing on LIFE+, Structural Funds, FP7 and INTERREG, the conference will look at differences, similarities as well as Do’s and Don’ts of financial instruments in addition to the rules of mixing EU funding sources without running the risk of double financing of projects. Based on an evaluation of the first round of project applications for LIFE+, the conference will provide a forum to discuss common problems regarding the application guidelines with experienced speakers.

The conference is intended for public officials or employees working in the Ministry of Environment and Conservation, Research, Consumer Protection, Transport and Marine Fisheries as well as for Environmental NGOs, consulting companies for public funding and project management agencies.
