The International House Sonnenberg invites you to its summer-training-course on intercultural learning, taking place from 4th of August to 11th of August 2007 at our conference centre in the National Park of the Harz Mountains, Germany for people from Italy, Poland, Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, Hungary and Finland.

Organising and running international youth exchanges, seminars, conferences and similar activities often brings up special challenges due to the difference of cultures involved.

Communication may be tricky, assumptions may be surprisingly different, visions and values not as similar as taken for granted. What is the true treasure of such work could turn out to become a problem if not taken into account at all levels. Cultural awareness and intercultural competence can be trained and we want to offer such training to actives who are new to the field of international youth work or about to enter it.

The one week training-course consists of many exercises, theoretical input and lots of best-practise examples and conclusions from our experience in intercultural youth work. It offers an introduction by experiencing many exercises oneself, learn how to run them and further focuses on the transfer of the gained experience into ones own daily work. Also contact-making will be fostered by a separate session on the new "Youth in Action"-program and a project market of all participanting organisations.

The training-course is designed for ‘junior multipliers’ e.g. junior staff in organisations in the field of international youth-work, trainers and group leaders.

The participants can be professional staff as well as active volunteers. The training is meant to be an introduction for people starting in the field of international youth work and not yet having worked with methods of "intercultural learning", nor having attended similar trainings.
