Disruptive Innovation: How Civil Society Can Bring About Social Change
Maecenata-Institut für Philanthropie und Zivilgesellschaft
Wilhelmstr. 67
10117 Berlin
Berlin Brandenburg
Beschreibung:
Simon Willis, CEO of the Young Foundation, will introduce the subject:
A disruptive innovation is an innovation that helps create a new value network, and eventually disrupts an existing value network (over a few years or decades), displacing an earlier state of the art or mental framework. The term has long been in use in business and technology to describe innovations that improve a product or service in ways that the market does not expect.
Simon Willis worked with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, the Society of Friends (Quakers) and Amnesty International before moving to Geneva to lobby the Human Rights committee on international torture negotiations. After studying PPE at Oxford as a “mature” student, he joined the UK civil service fast stream working in benefit policy, finance and operations, and heading the financial crime operation at the UK Treasury. While building and leading a global social innovation group at Cisco Systems, Simon Willis started several non-profits including ones focused on urban sustainability and social innovation. He helped the Young Foundation found the Social Innovation Exchange (SIX). Throughout the years, he has also worked closely with a number of governments on their citizen engagement and large-scale open innovation strategies. The Young Foundation is „determined to make social change happen“.
